This Privacy Policy explains how EScout ("EScout," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the EScout website and app (the "Service").
We do not require your name or phone number to use the Service, and we do not ask for them unless you contact us directly for support.
If you tap the locate button, EScout asks your device for permission to use your precise location so it can center the map on where you are and show your position and facing direction while you scout. Showing your position on the map happens on your device; we do not keep a history of where you are or track you in the background. If you decline the permission, every other part of the app keeps working; only the locate button and track recording are affected. You can change this at any time in your device's Settings.
Recorded tracks. If you use the track recorder, your device collects the GPS points of the route you walk while recording is on. If you save the track, those points (along with its name, distance, and time) are stored with your account so the track syncs across your devices. If you discard it, nothing is sent. You can delete any saved track at any time in the app, and deleting your account deletes all of them.
Waypoints and markers. Waypoints, trail camera locations, and similar markers are places you choose to save; their coordinates are stored with your account so they sync across your devices. You can delete them at any time in the app.
The area you're viewing. Like any online map, EScout loads map imagery, terrain, water, public land, parcel, and weather data for the area shown on your screen. To do that, your device requests that data from the map and data providers listed in Section 4, which receive the map area (and, for weather and wind, the map's center point) along with your IP address, as part of a normal web request. We do not send these providers your account details.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.
We use a small number of service providers ("subprocessors") to run EScout. Each only receives what it needs to do its job:
Map and data providers. To draw the map, your device loads data directly from these services, which receive the map area being viewed and your IP address (see "The area you're viewing" above). Each operates under its own privacy policy:
We do not share your information with anyone else except as required by law, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of EScout, our users, or others.
We retain your email address, device identifier, saved content (including saved tracks), and subscription records for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete your account and its data at any time from inside the app — see Section 8 below.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
You can delete your account yourself, directly in the app. Open Account & Settings (the gear in the toolbar, or the account icon in the top bar), then choose Delete my account. For your protection we email a one-time confirmation code to your sign-in address and ask you to type DELETE before anything is removed.
Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your email address and account record, every waypoint, line, area, and recorded track you saved, your display name, your saved map view, any share links you created (recipients lose access straight away), and any view-only access you were granted to other people's pins. This cannot be undone.
If you have a paid subscription, deleting your account cancels it immediately. No refund is issued for the remainder of the period you have already paid for, so you may prefer to let the subscription run to the end of its term before deleting.
You may also contact us at the address in Section 11 to request access to or correction of your data, or to ask us to delete your account on your behalf. Please write from the email address you use to sign in, or otherwise include enough detail for us to locate your records (for example, the email used at checkout). We will confirm once your data has been deleted.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and database-level access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
